Wondering if the plant that's growing in your yard is a "good" plant or a "bad" plant? Karen Syverson has put together an amazing display of invasive plants and information on how they effect native vegetation. Invasive plants on display include Dame's Rocket, Japanese Barberry, Black Locust, Honeysuckle, plus Reed Canary Grass and Purple Loosestrife. She also highlights information from Invasive Plants of Wisconsin - www.ipaw.org. Karen also maintains the Native Garden in the front of the library and is a member and Past President of the Fox Valley Area Chapter of Wild Ones. Wild Ones "promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through preservation of native plant communities." Leon-Saxeville Library was the proud recepient of a Natural Landscaping Grant from Wild Ones. Are you interested in showcasing your collection at the library? Do you have a special talent or hobby you would like to display for others? We're putting together a list of people who are willing to bring their “personal favorites” sometime during 2008. The display usually stays in the locked display case for the month. If you're interested, see the Library Director and she’ll get you signed up!
We'll be glad to give you a quick demonstration.
Reader's Edge Book Club and Story Hour Stars will return in September 2008.
When the snow melts, work begins on the garden. We’ll be seeding the grassy area and cleaning up the planted area and putting in additional plants. Hopefully the stepping-stones survived the winter. If not, we’ll be making more of them. The Friends of the Leon-Saxeville Library was the recipient of a "Landscaping for Tomorrow" Grant from the Fox Valley Area Chapter of The Wild Ones organization. Call the library at 920-987-5110 to find out how you can help!
The Youth Book Club meets on Mondays at 4pm at the library.
If you listen to audio books, we have the perfect thing for you — our library is now providing access to the OverDrive Digital Audio Book collection! You can download audiobooks to your PC and listen to them on your computer, transfer them to a digital audio player, PDA, or other portable device, or burn them to a CD.
If you’re already a fan of books on tape and books on CD, this is a new way to enjoy your favorites at home, in your car and on the go! Need help? Check our digital audio books help page for tips on downloading, listening, transferring and more!
Downloading the free and easy to use OverDrive Media Console software allows you to listen to audio books in high-quality Windows Media Audio format on any Windows computer. If your PC already has Windows Media Player installed, the Console works hand-in-hand with WMP to give you added functionality to transfer your audio books to supported portable devices. Access to Overdrive Digital Audio Books is made possible by funding from the Winnefox Library System and the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium.
